| 15.12.200916:49 (GMT) | On the eve of the professional holiday of Russian intelligence officers, the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev presented the Director of Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov the banner of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), its official symbol and a military relic, and standard of the Director of the SVR, a symbol of personal responsibility of the commander, Russian First TV channel reports.
The ceremony was held at St. George Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace, MIRTV reports, referring to the Kremlin press service. On the front side of the Service’s banner is a two-headed eagle, on the eagle's breast there is a red shield with a silver horseman spearing a black dragon. On the reverse side in the center of the flag there is the emblem of the SVR: the golden double-headed eagle holding a silver crossed sword and a flaming torch on the eagle's breast round shield with a five-way a shining star in the center of which is a blue image of the globe with golden parallels and meridians. On the banner it is written: Fatherland, Valor and Honor; these words are the motto of the SVR officers.
"I am confident that you, like all your predecessors, will be proud to carry this banner, you will be worthy of the glorious traditions that exist in the Service", said Dmitry Medvedev. President of Russia stressed that the competition for political, economic and informational influence world was growing in the world. "It imposes new requirements to the quality of operational and analytical work of the SVR", added President Medvedev. According to him, the key areas of the service should remain information and analytical support of major policy decisions.
